Last Minute DIY Holiday Gift Ideas

Need some easy, last minute gift ideas?  I got you!!  Essential oils make great gifts on their own, but we also love to make fun DIY presents with essential oils to give to our friends and family!  I am not a huge DIYer, so I like to keep things really simple!   I gathered my 5 favorite DIY recipes below – These are easy to make and would be really fun for the kids to get involved with too!  My daughter loves helping to make gifts for her coaches and scout leader… and helping to make stocking stuffers and little fun gifts for our friends and family.  These would make great gifts for teachers too!   So turn on the Hallmark Channel, throw on that Christmas music, and let’s get DIY-ing!
1. Holiday Sugar Scrub

Sugar scrubs are so good for your skin and you also get the added aromatherapy benefits when you add essential oils!  These are always a big hit as gifts and I love that you can custom-make the scent depending on who you are giving them to.  These are so great to keep by your sink to use it after you wash your hands or in your shower.  It leaves your skin feeling so smooth!!

Items Needed:
¼ cup of Sugar in the Raw (thicker to help exfoliate the skin better)
¼ cup of brown sugar
½ cup fractionated coconut oil
5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil(s)
Small canning jars

I grabbed a pack of small glass canning jars at Walmart so that we can make a bunch of these!  Start by adding both sugars to the jar and then customize by adding your favorite oils.  We made ours with 5 drops of Citrus Bliss (mood uplifting and bright fun smell) and 5 drops of Madagascar Vanilla (cozy scent).  Some other great blends are:  Peppermint and Wild Orange, Peppermint and Vanilla, and Ginger and Lime.  Next, add the FCO and mix everything with a knife.  You can get as creative as you’d like with the finishing touches.  For ours, we put the lid on, then layered red and gold tulle on top and screwed the lid over.  You can add a ribbon on the outside and a gift tag or sticker on top!

2. Bath Salt Ornament

This bath salt ornament is literally 2 ingredients and so cute!   Epsom salt baths have so many great benefits including helping to pull out toxins from the body, softening rough and dry skin, and exfoliating dead skin cells.   When adding soothing essential oils to the mix, it's sure to help destress!

Items Needed:
Round plastic ornaments (I grabbed a big pack from Michael’s for $12!)
1 cup of Epsom Salt
5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil

Put the epsom salt in a paper bowl and add your favorite oils.  I like to use calming, relaxing oils for baths - so I put in 3 drops of Balance and 3 drops of Serenity.  Pick your favorite oil blends to add!  You can get as fun and creative as you want with adding cute details like dehydrated lavender petals or skin safe food coloring, or just keep it simple.  Mix everything well and then use a funnel to pour the mixture into the ornament. Top off with more epsom salt if needed.  If there are any holes in the top of the ornament, use Press and Seal to seal the top so there is no spillage.  I got cute red ribbon to tie to the top to hang it and added a gift tag!

3. Peppermint Hot Cocoa in a Jar

Who doesn't love hot cocoa?!  This is such a cute gift idea - and looks so pretty layered in the mason jar!  The added touch of Peppermint essential oil makes this a perfect, cozy all-in-one drink.

Items Needed:
1 cup sugar
1 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 cup powdered milk
1/2 cup miniature marshmallows
3-5 drops peppermint
1 quart mason jar

Stir the peppermint oil into the sugar.  Then, use a funnel to layer ingredients in the jar.  Start with powdered milk, then cocoa, peppermint sugar, chocolate chips, and marshmallows.  I like to wrap a decorative ribbon around the top with a cute gift tag!  Make sure to include instructions on the tag:  To serve, add 1/3 cup of mix to one cup of hot water.  Recipe yields 12 servings.

4. Scented Holiday Cards

These scented cards are so much fun to get the kids involved with and make great gifts for grandparents!   Kiddos can draw and color personalized cards for grandparents and then help scent them.  This also works great with store-bought cards, and the oils add a little personalized touch!  Love that you can create a warm, cozy experience with aromatherapy when they open the card!

Items Needed:
Cotton balls
Plastic or paper bag
Your favorite festive essential oil
Home-made or store bought card

Put 2-4 drops of essential oil on the cotton ball.  Place the cotton ball inside the bag with the cards.  Seal the bag and let sit overnight to make the card smell amazing!  Some great oils to use would be Holiday Joy, Cinnamon Bark, Douglas Fir, Frankincense, Wild Orange, or Holiday Peace.

5. Festive Diffuser Blends

Add your favorite diffusing blends to a recycled 5ml bottle to gift to your oil loving friends and family.   They end up with pre-made festive blends that they can get multiple uses out of!  Diffusing is a great way to create a warm and cozy atmosphere, but also works to help boost the immune system.   Here are some great recipes below!
